The City of Langford is developing a Climate Action Plan to prepare the community for the impacts of climate change and reduce local greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Climate change is no longer a distant issue. We are already experiencing its effects. In recent years, Langfordhas faced extreme heat, wildfire smoke, heavy rainfall and flooding, and longer dry periods. These events are expected to become more frequent and intense as the climate continues to change.
The Climate Action Plan is identified as a specific objective in the 2023-2027 Council Strategic Plan. This Plan is intended to reflect the experiences and priorities of the people who live, work, visit and operatebusinesses in Langford.
Communities around the world are taking steps to lower emissions from buildings, transportation, and daily activities to limit future impacts. Langford recognizes the need to do the same. Our goal is to support all members ofthe community in preparing for climate-related risks, while reducing local GHG emissions in alignment with regional and global efforts.
This Plan will outline a practical, flexible path toward making our community and local economy more resilient to the effects of climate change today and for generations to come.
