The City of Langford is developing a Parks and Trails Master Plan, and we want to hear from you! Whether you're a frequent visitor, an occasional explorer, or new to the area and eager to learn more, we value your ideas and suggestions. Join us in shaping the future of Langford parks and trails!

In 2023 the City completed a Parks, Trails, and Recreation Needs Assessment to identify the community’s current and future parks, natural space, trails, and recreation needs. Findings from the needs assessment are now being confirmed with residents and key partners through a public engagement process to develop a Parks and Trails Master Plan.

This Plan will determine how the current parks and trails system is meeting the needs of residents today, explore what could be enhanced, and to plan for the future. Once completed, the Plan will guide future decisions about the acquisition, development, features, enhancements, and management of the City's parks and trails system for the next 10 years and beyond.

At the same time as the Parks and Trails Master Plan is being developed, the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society (WSPRS) are conducting a Facilities Master Plan which will review indoor and outdoor programmable spaces for recreation (ice arenas, ball fields, soccer fields). WSPRS operates several indoor and outdoor recreation and sports facilities on behalf of municipal partners, including the City of Langford. The Facilities Master Plan aims to better understand community needs for programmable recreation and sports across the West Shore.

Thank you for your participation in the Parks and Trails Master Plan. Your feedback will be instrumental in determining the prioritization of needs for community parks
and trails, shaping the future direction of these essential amenities for years to come.

    Timeline

Draft Master Plan Objectives, Strategies and Actions

The following objectives, strategies, and actions for the forthcoming Parks and Trails Master Plan have been informed by the updated Official Community Plan, the Urban Forest Management Plan, the Parks Needs Assessment, and phase one of community engagement.

In phase one of community engagement, opportunities and ideas about enhancing the parks and trails system were shared by the public. The City has used this information to prepare draft objectives, strategies, and actions for the plan including a vision, guiding principles and values, nine objectives with associated strategies and actions, as well as site-specific considerations.

This survey seeks your input, which will help to inform the final Parks and Trails Master Plan. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and will remain open until end of day November 9, 2025.

    Please Note:

The Parks and Trails Master Plan is focused only on City parks and trails (Centennial Park, Ed Nixon Trail), not Capital Regional District or Provincial parks and trails (Mill Hill Regional Park, Goldstream Provincial Park, Galloping Goose Trail).

Indoor and outdoor structured recreation facilities, regional/provincial parks, and active transportation are not included in the scope of this project.
